Blueing Salts
Blueing is a black or blue finish (gloss or matt) for steel parts, which gives them a long-lasting decorative and corrosion-resistant finish.
Blueing attracts and retains lubricant oils. The treatment does not increase or decrease the size of the metals treated, and thus tolerances for part adjustments are not affected. Furthermore, the surfaces so treated may be welded, waxed, varnished or painted. A matt finish is obtained when applied to a surface treated by sandblasting or with a chemical mordant, and a gloss finish on a polished or smooth surface. The colours that can be obtained range from black to bluish, depending upon the type of alloy treated.
