Phosphating is a metal surface treatment which protects against corrosion and which adds a fine, compact layer of phosphates which aid the application, adhesion and appearance of paintwork, be this conventional, cataphoretic or electrodeposited. Additionally, proper phosphating ensures a uniform surface and hence lower paint consumption, a better shine and an optimal finish. Phosphating agents are applied by immersion or spraying, at stages prior to painting and in combination with specific degreasers.
